Backlink monitoring inside Pro: why pay $129 for a suite when you only need link control

Link profiles break silently. A donor deletes the article, a partner site migrates without redirects, a paid placement expires — and you find out months later, when rankings have already sagged. The only defense is monitoring: regular profile snapshots and an alert the moment something disappears. The problem: the market sells this simple thing only inside big suites — Ahrefs starts at $129/mo and bundles keyword research, content tools and plenty you won’t use.

How it works

  1. Add a domain in the cabinet’s Backlinks tab — the first snapshot takes ~10 seconds.
  2. A snapshot captures: backlinks, referring domains, main domains, broken links and domain rank + the top-300 referring domains by authority.
  3. Every week the domain is re-snapshotted automatically and the diff is computed: which domains appeared (+) and which were lost (−).
  4. Lost domains → a Telegram alert immediately, listing what disappeared. In the cabinet each snapshot row expands into the full new/lost lists.

To be fair: if you dig through competitors’ link profiles daily and run outreach campaigns off them, you need Ahrefs — its index is deeper. But if the job is “watch MY profile and never miss a loss”, paying $129 for an unused suite makes no sense.

What to do with a loss alert

  • A link from a strong domain disappeared — open the donor page: was the article deleted or rewritten? Email the webmaster — recovering a freshly-lost link is far easier than earning a new one.
  • Many domains disappeared at once — check whether your site migrated (redirects!) or a mirror domain expired.
  • A sudden influx of odd-looking new domains — a possible negative-SEO hit; review the new list and prepare a disavow if needed.

Try it: the Backlinks tab in the seo·matrix cabinet → subscribe to Pro — $59/mo → add a domain.

FAQ

How is backlink monitoring different from a one-off audit?

An audit is a photo of your profile today. Monitoring is the film: weekly snapshots and the diff between them. You learn about a lost link from a strong domain within days via an alert — not by accident six months later.

Why do lost links matter more than new ones?

New links arrive gradually and their effect is diffuse. A loss is an event: a donor page was deleted, a site migrated, a paid placement expired. A loss is actionable — email the webmaster, restore the placement — before rankings sag.

How many domains can I monitor?

No domain cap — every added domain is re-snapshotted automatically once a week. Manual snapshots are limited to one per domain per day.

What if my site has no links yet?

The snapshot will honestly show zeros — that's data too: a baseline your link-building progress becomes visible against.
